Food insecurity, and hungry families, are a growing issue throughout our communities.
Help feed those in need in our communities by growing extra fruit or vegetables this season and donating them to a food bank or community effort near you.
The New River Valley Master Gardeners are joining together to grow extra produce in our projects, and at our homes, to donate to the community. Here is a link to food banks or community outreach efforts throughout the NRV, by county and the type of food donations they accept, for ideas of where you can donate and help feed those in need.
Need seeds? You can source free produce seeds by visiting our plant clinics and your local libraries – many of which have a free seed station in a repurposed card catalog.
Visit Garden Projects
If you missed visiting us during pollinator week, don’t worry, the gardens are still open to the public and many of them also support food production and are taking part in the Grow A Row Challenge. Click here to learn more about gardens to visit in our program counties, learn about pollinators, and learn about our NRVMGA community grant program that contributes funding to support these gardening projects.
